About NZBRASS
NZBRASS is a project-based professional brass ensemble performing at the highest level of chamber music in Aotearoa.
Founded by five of New Zealand’s leading brass musicians, the ensemble draws on careers across professional orchestras, jazz, brass bands and chamber music to create a world class small ensemble with a distinctly New Zealand identity.
Vision
To be the country’s definitive brass chamber ensemble. Recognised nationally for artistic excellence, celebrated for reaching audiences in main and regional centres alike, and respected internationally as the benchmark for Southern Hemisphere brass.
Mission
To perform brass music at the highest professional level, to build a loyal and growing audience through themed subscription concerts and genuine community engagement, and to represent NZBRASS on national and international stages.
Structure
NZBRASS operates as a project ensemble. Founding members commit to defined concert seasons rather than ongoing weekly rehearsals, which focuses rehearsal energy into intensive pre-performance blocks, allows guest musicians to be engaged for particular repertoire, and keeps the organisation lean, agile and commercially disciplined.
